Evaluation question 2
This question I've chosen to do on PowerPoint, however blog spot wont allow me to upload this to its site so I will have to show my Evaluation questions by print screens/ writing it on this post. I have Emailed my teachers a copy of my power point for this question.
How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary texts?
DIGIPAK :
Does it fulfil its purpose?
I believe my digipak fulfils its purpose as it uses codes
and conventions of a digipak. Not only that but in certain ways it also has
developed and challenged theses codes and conventions. We incorporated logos,
track list, band man, main image, age restriction, bar code and a colour scheme
for our album. Whist the magazine advert included the release date, album
title, band name, website of the band and recording label logos. We developed
this by adding an image of the album on the advert and not using a set release
date but a message “ out now!” and also the track listing of the songs within
the album to give the audience a view of topics discussed within songs. The
digipak is recognisable as the audience would be able to distinguish it as an
album cover and poster from the music genre, based on the band name and the
style it uses.
(This image is what is shown on the power point after I answer the question, its to give a visual example of what the question is speaking on)
How does it combine with the album advert?
The digipak combines with the album advert because they both
use the same imagery background, colour scheme and font style. The background
uses faded still shots from scenes within our music video made into a collage.
The colour scheme of black and white was a better choice to use instead of
mixing different colours for each element of the digipak as it would have
looked like different products instead of the same household theme. The font is
also a theme that’s been used throughout the digipak as we used it for the
band’s name. The font originally came from the actual bands albums which
include - minutes to midnight, road to revolution and songs from the
underground. This not only shows intertextuality but also continuity within our
digipak, connecting everything together.
Would it be appropriate for your target audience?
Yes, because they all link together to show they are a Rock
music band with the bold edgy font used, the imagery of the album advert and
album cover gives a sense of a message to the audience instead of just an image
of them artist, so then its promoting the music not the person. The lyrics and
experience of the song is what we wanted the audience to connect with most, not
the just artist. Since this is a code and convention often used by rock
bands/artist, as they would used their album main image to put across a message
instead of a photo of themselves. I think we have made it appropriate for our
target audience by how we have produced our digipak.
How does it combine with your music video?
The digipak as a whole links in with our music video as we
used elements such as the background we created by sit shots from scenes made
into a collage. This is a theme background that we have used throughout our
digpak. It’s been consistent. Another theme we used was the crumpled paper bag
effect on our album cover. This was done to keep a link between our video and
digipak as the paper bag heads are noticeable to our video and would then allow
the album to also be noticeable to the audience.
How does it combine with the album cover?
The parental advisory logo is also placed on the album cover
letting the audience know that there are some serious issues being discussed
within the album, it’s more than just the music it’s a voice to be heard. The
codes and conventions of album cover usually have this logo displayed on the album
that we have used within our digipak.
ALBUM ADVERT:
How does it combine with your digipak?
Yes, since we used a specific brand identity as we realised
that the band’s logo was black and white, the song subject matters is usually
dark and intensive. We then decided to saturate the colours in the music video
(not using bright colours e.g. yellow); we then had faded images from the music
video. All the effects were then made then same e.g. setting the saturation of
each image to the same amount and adjusting the vibrancy of each image. This
is how we create our background for our digipak. Placing an image of the album
cover on the magazine advert promoted the combination of the digpak and the
album as it became recognisable to the audience. The used for the band name was
also consistent within our digipak, it’s also the font used by 3 preview albums
of the band we used.
Would it be appropriate for your target audience?
I think it is does to the style used since it come across as
a rock music advert and not another genre of music. Pop would use an image of
the artist whilst rock uses an image that sends a message and I believe this is
what we have don within our advert. The target audience is appropriate as a
child would be attracted to bright and bold colours whilst more mature people
would lean towards neutral colours such as black and white. This established
our older audience whilst the font style used would attract a teenage audience
as its edgy and bold. Some youth can still be seen within this font. So they we
get a mature young audience buy the way we have set out our advert.
Does it fulfill its purpose?
I believe so; we have promoted the album by adding an image
of the band and getting a track listing of the songs featured. The main image
and household style of the advert is very similar to the album and recognisable
then for the audience to go and purchase the our product.
MUSIC VIDEO:
Does it fulfill its purpose?
Yes, we created a rock music video that was relation to the
lyrics of our chosen song. By using black and white saturated edits we created
a dim setting throughout the video, this was because the subject matter was
dark and intense. We related the lyrics to the visuals again for example when
the lyric ‘BREAK!’ was shouted our actor Terry (the teacher) ripped the paper
with the previous lyrics written on into two. This carries the emotion of the
song to the audience whilst keeping a link between the two narratives. We used
intertextuality by including the band name on a White board behind the
‘Teacher’ in a scene at the beginning of our music video, this was also done on
our album cover as we choose to mate the band name stand out.
How does it combine with the album advert and digipak?
We used a specific brand identity was with the colour scheme
of black and white, the song subject matters is usually dark and intensive. We
then decided to saturate the colours in the music video (not using bright
colours e.g. green); we then had faded images from the music video. All the
effects were then made then same e.g. setting the saturation of each image to
the same amount and adjusting the vibrancy of each image. This is how we
create our background for our digipak
Is it appropriate for your target audience?
The issues shown within our video are for an older age group
of teenagers as it is set within a school, and uses students. It then deals
with topics such as bullying which is most common in every school and is likely
to be experiences by most students so they are able to relate to this.
Overall view:
As we have done this, I think it shows our vision to take
something ordinary and make it extraordinary by giving it that push it needs to
be better than ever anticipated. Whenever given criticisms we always took it
into consideration, and then went back to the drawing board to see how it would
work if we applied it to our work. By being this open minded and understanding
we were able to communicate better as a group. Which then lead to us bettering
our work as we all had the same mind-set goal.
Being created the album cover and magazine advert open minded to change
as in the beginning they weren’t our initial ideas. We did the same for the
storyboard of the music video as that also went through quite a few changes.
Evaluation Question 1
I used 4 different media platforms to construct my evaluation questions. Heres a list of how i set it out.
- evaluation question 1- slideshare
- evaluation question 2 - power point (some technical difficulties at the moment with uploading but it will be up shortly)
- evaluation question 3 - video recording by our group speaking on the question
- evaluation question 4 - prezi

These blogs are among others that I've used to help and direct me on what I should do in terms of my own blog. As many of them are work from previous years and they have complete the course i get a great deal of insight and detail into the type of written work i should be blogging about and how the best way is on doing this.
I also use Wikipedia and official website to gain information on things i have research into. in turns of the evaluation question I've used Prezi and Slide share post to help.

.... production n editing of my music video
Our teacher also send a chain email to other staff members of our video without letting them know we were the creators. They gave back more feedback than anticipated and was helpful in giving us ways to make our video better. For example one teacher said that we she make the edits clearer and speed up certain scenes within the video. We then went back and re edited it buy fastening the pace of the edit with Emmanuel running through the corridor as it seemed to drag on before. we also refined the video and made the entire thing clearer.
Even thought the things that we have change have been small, they have helped to make a big difference in improving the visual of our video.
IT'S COMPLETED !!!
After a few arguments, blood sweat and tears ... only joking, but yes after a lot of technical difficulties and extra filming we have finally finished our MUSIC VIDEO!
This is a link to the video so watch and enjoy because I know I did *happy dance*
The dark clouds and sky match Emmanuel's emotion within this scene it helps to also portray his emotions to the audience watching
This is a flash transition which we have used to build up tension and also show our editing skills
Here's the alleyway scene of our protagonist walking alone, shows his isolation from everyone else
Emmanuel is getting attacked in this scene, the paper bag heads distinguished the difference between him not liking like them, fitting in with them and inferior to them
Here are some audience feedback we received from views of our video:

...... production of my digipak advert
Initially we wanted to just at the release date and website with record labels logos at the bottom of the advert
Cameron got creative and developed this more by adding an image of the album along with a black rectangular box across the bottom of the advert which would make the information inside stand out more. We also decided to add the track listing giving the audience a preview of whats was included in the album.
This is our final magazine advert that we created. We wanted to keep a consistency of the imagery used on the album cover within our digipaks so we kept the theme of the faded still shots from scenes as a background. We also kept the same font used from our album cover and Linkin Park's album's.
..... production of my digipak
We originally wanted to use the paper bag theme for our album cover, which would show continuity throughout our media products.
This was used within our muisc video
From the image above we tried to recreate it as an album front cover, however it wasnt working as we couldn't transfer the 3D effect on to photoshop. so we went back to the drawing board for some new ideas....
... like this one, it's simple yet bold at the same time. The font for the band name is also used by the Linkin Park's album cover minutes to midnight. the background colour did not have any relevants to to our previous products so we changed it to white. Just like our paper back heads.
As we used the colour of the paperbag head we wanted to also add the crumpled effect. We realised after that one of our evaultion questions wanted us to show how por video related to our ancillary texts, which meant we had to be consistent through all our medi products. For that reson we added faded still shots from our music video into the back cover of the album covers front and back.

Analysis of Digipak Adverts
Conventions of an album advert that are included in this are
the band name, album title and website for the band however what we do not see it’s
the album release date which usually are features on adverts.
The Killers image is of a mosaic with a range of such as,
purple, pink, white, orange, red, brown and burgundy. When looking at the
poster you feel as if you’re in a dream world, like it’s an imagination. This can
be a connoting of what the album is going to be like a fantasy that takes you
out of your skin into something more beautiful.
The font for the band name is used throughout various albums
of theirs and is seen to be constant. It’s bold and white which stands out
significantly, especially surrounded by different shades of purple. The Album
title is below in black with a smaller font which also is clearly seen.
The bottom on the
advert has a black fade effect with has a clear white bold font stating it’s a brand
new album and the new single ‘Human’ on the line below in a smaller font size.
The wording and layout of this album advert is simple but
still has an artistic feel to it with the imagery
The Kings of Leon used a frame work cut into four parts;
each member face is seen in a frame merged with an image that resembles an
eagle. The imagery is clear and is done as if shots from a camera frame.
The font used for the album title resembles that of 80/90’s
computer game in the style green with space bars in-between each word. Underneath
we can see a brief description of songs from the album that has already been chart
toppers. This style is white and in a medium font.
The last line has ‘OUT NOW’ in red and positioned right in
the middle of the line. This gives a clear view to the audience/public that
this is the 2nd most important information that need from this
topic. When staring at the advert you first see the green as its bright and big
, this is don’t to show the album name. Then we see bold red which has the release
date aka now so then its connoting to the audience they should buy the album
since it’s out now and the middle line written in white already shows that the
music is worth whilst as the songs are topping the charts.
At the bottom of the advert we see logos for music website ‘play.com’
where you can purchase the album online.

Getting you up to speed
We recently shoot another scene for our video but this time it had Hayden singing.
We wanted to merge lip syncing into our video so that it used more codes and conventions as Linkin Park within their videos.
Location: Drama Room
Advantages:
What we filmed:
We shoot Hayden lip syncing and playing a guitar which supported the codes and conventions of 'one step closer' as within the first 28 seconds we see a guitar solo starting the song of. Another thing is shown through that video is the band playing in a dark alleyway with their instruments this was used in our video by Hayden playing his guitar.

Location: Drama Room
Advantages:
- Dark room allowed us to use the typical setting seen in the rock genre music videos
- Light arrangement within the Drama room allowed us to manipulate the lights to whatever we felt would give the best quality to our video
- Black wall is an intertextuality that was also used in Linkin Park's Video 'Faint' showing that we incorparated some of the codes and convetions.
- Distrubances from other students
- Working around the Drama teacher schedule

Album Cover
This would be the side of the front cover:
Digipaks are a patented type of CD packaging which is made out card/paperboard. Usually, digipaks can open up like a book or they could have a more unique design, such as a three-part digipak in which one portion of the packaging opens to the right and other to the left. The part of the digipak which is made to hold the CD(s) is made of plastic, which is attached to the paper background. Digipaks are often used for special edition versions of CDs and are typically filled with designs and graphics
Codes and conventions of a digipak:
· Album art
· Track listing
· Card/paperboard packaging
· Lyric booklet
· Credits
· Copyright logo
· Artistic cover
· Pictures of band members
· Quotes from reviewers
· DVD(s) depending on the type of digipak.
· Barcode
· Web addresses
· Folding packaging
· Date of release
· List of band members' roles
· Square based packaging
Front:
The name of the artist, the name of the album and song list will all be in the same front style and colour.
Spines of the cover:
It usually has the artist and the name of the album. It always has the disk insides format like the CD logo and also would have a serial code, which would define it.
The album uses a cardboard styled casing, which opens like a regular CD case, but then opens again additionally on the right panel to expose the CD inside the digipak. There is also a little pocket (which also folds outwards) on the inside of the front cover on the left that holds the Digipak's booklet, and tour information. When the Digipak is folded out to it maximum potential and the CD removed from its casing, there is a band photo that stretches across the whole of the Digipak.

This is the front cover which uses an illusion effect of darkness when you can see clear light. This is done by the grey water at the bottom of the cover that goes off into a foggy type mist. The 6 silhouette also add to creating a form of edgy darkness to the cover as they are black. This creates a contrast with the white background that takes up most of the cover.
Opening the cover it exposes two panels one has a photo of two of the band members on the left and on the right shows a collage of the band when they were recording the album and the band logo in the middle. These panels keep the house style and it is kept consistent throughout the whole of the Digipak.
This is the collage on the right panel with the logo within the middle
CD case open fully
It has three compartments
The first compartment holds the booklet within its pocket. Its also has the image of 1 that makes up of 3.
The second compartment holds the CD disk with the bands logo on the cover, which usually is the one that holds all the music from the album. This compartment has a plastic disk holder instead of the slit and also the strongest and heaviest part of the digipak. The back has the 2nd picture of to 3 that make up 1.
The third compartment has the 3rd picture that completes the image .
Cover flaps over the CD
CD is removed showing a large close up shot of the band
Inside the inside cover is a front pocket that has a of tour programme and CD booklet
CD
It was a very creative way to incorporate the bands logo onto the CD with the song list written within the logo at the edge. Whilst still keeping the theme of style.
Back of the cover:
The back cover of the digipak, again shows the band in the same location, with the rack list above them located in the sky, between the clouds. Has a barcode which most albums and any product would have.
Has parental explicit contents logo on it as like a age restriction thing has all the makers and publications at the bottom with billing in small print a back ground for all this information to go on and the main code and convention the names, the numbers of the songs and any special features.

Getting up to speed
We re shoot some old scene since on Monday 4th March 2013, we felt they need to be done again
Monday, 4 February 2013 … Shoot 3
What was being filming:
We had issues with filming the original hall scene, as we didn't not have enough extra or paper bag to fill up the crowds. We then took advice from our Media teacher by
using the English block.
Emmanuel was screaming and shouting, drawing attention to himself.
This was done to show his frustration and anger towards everything happening to
him.
Setting:
English department consisted of a balcony so we could see
Emmanuel looking down on the other characters; it also allowed us to see the
other characters look up.
Props:
Camera
Paper bag head
Tripod
Characters:
As we used our media lesson to film it was not easy to film
actors so myself and Jahquani took on roles as actress’s as we only needed 2
more people.
Emmanuel
Myself
Jahquani
Roles and Responsibilities:
Cameron - Behind the Camera
Myself - Actress
Jahquani - Actress
Problems:
There weren't any major problems but there was an issue with
children walking into scenes when we were filming as it was break for the lower
half of the school. All together it was a good day to film as we got the shots
needed.
